Training Weekend 1999:
Over on the Hereford & Gloucester Canal

Photos and text by Alan Jervis.

Organised by Alison Bottomley (Womble) and Mick Beattie, this took place at Over on the Herefordshire and Gloucestershire Canal. On this unique site, where a new entrance basin for the canal is being built, there are some items of equipment found on no other volunteer site in the country.

Just to make things more interesting, lots of extra equipment was hired in - most of it nice and shiny on the Saturday - but (surprise?) it rained! The resulting mud produced extra challenges and improvement opportunities. About 70 volunteers were trained in a variety of skills from surveying and bricklaying to Moxy driving and first aid.

The Moxy - brought a smile to the face of everyone who drove it. Now Ralph and Dave W reckon that plant's not worth driving unless you need a ladder to get in to it.

Ralph in action (or is that
inaction?).

Nightmare Ed has ...er.. nightmares?

Mick looks happy - that can
only mean that someone's
done something very, very
stupid with a machine....

AAARGH! Mark close up!

MKP instructs Bill on the finer points of Case driving.

Who says I look like my sister?
