Droitwich Barge Lock Appeal
WRG
volunteers are going to be doing a lot of the work to restore the Barge
Lock, which is right in the middle of Droitwich where the Barge canal
and Junction canal meet.
We aim to make it one of our major projects for WRG support next summer.
But we can't do it without the funding for materials and equipment.
Although the Lottery, Advantage West Midlands and local authorities have
all given major grants, there is a shortfall of something like £1m
in the £10m+ package to restore both canals.
By combining the use of volunteer labour and a £100,000 appeal keep the
volunteers working, we are making people's donations to the Droitwich go
as far as they possibly can towards closing that funding gap.
But we need to raise the money by next summer - and that's a tall order.
With our experience in unorthodox fundraising from appeals in the past,
WRG will be doing its best to make sure that the Appeal hits its target
on time to keep us busy next summer. And there will be updates in
Navvies and on the website of what we're up to. But anyone who wants to
help right now can go to The Waterways Trust website and
donate.
If you give £120 you get your name on a commemorative Brindley Post in
Vines Park by the canal as a bronze sponsor. £5000 makes you a gold
patron - and WRG became the very first gold patron at the launch at St
Ives. But every pound helps.
WRG also supporting fundraising through the a Race Night on Saturday 10
May.
