WRG South West

A number of people had been saying for some considerable time that now so many WRGies lived in the South West we should have our own regional group. So after some discussion in the run up to and then at the National Festival at Burton in 2004, WRG SW was formed.

The aim of the group is to help in the restoration of the canals in the South West - such as the Cotswolds, Grand Western, Mon & Brec, H&G and the Wilts & Berks.

In our first year (2004-5) we held six digs, helped the Cotswolds complete a bridge and associated works, provided training to the Hereford & Gloucester and held a Christmas party in the middle of January.

WRG SW has a core of regular volunteers and with associated others turnout is typically 10-14 volunteers for each weekend. We would welcome any new volunteers!

Some facts:

bullet

We don’t have a membership (much like WRG central)

bullet

You don’t have to live in the South West to dig with us (I’m in Bucks for heavens sake!)

bullet

No particular skills are needed (just enthusiasm and a sense of humour)

bullet

Our focus will be on safety and fun

bullet

We’ll still keep digging with other groups (sorry, but you can’t get rid of us that easily!)
